To maintain and extend this position, the MSD group is looking for expert biologists for a demanding role in database curation. The work involves annotating preliminary PDB submissions and extracting biological information relevant to a given entry. In addition, curators draw on their own area of expertise in contributing to the development of methods and procedures. Qualifications and experience: Applicants should be computer-literate and possess a PhD in some area of structural biology or chemistry as well as a broad knowledge in molecular biology. Good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential. The successful candidate must have some Linux/Unix, Emacs and scripting experience as well as advanced English language skills. In-depth knowledge of biochemistry and/or protein structure analysis is desirable. Contract: A contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. The members of the wwPDB group are working towards a single deposition and processing system and require a C++ programmer familiar with F77 and F90 to both contribute to this collaborative system by re-writing older Fortran software and to integrate processing procedures with an XML I/O layer independent of the algorithms. The post holder will work within an international group and work closely with a Java/XML GUI developer and the curation staff to ensure that a complete working system is built in a sustainable manner. Qualifications and experience: Applicants must hold a degree in Computer Science or have a proven record in software development. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 3 years experience in programming in C++ and proficiency in Fortran, covering algorithm development and applications. A background in large integrated software packages and maintenance and experience in Linux/Unix and Emacs are essential as are good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently. We require a software engineer to work on the integration of 3D map data from electron microscopy with coordinate data from other structural biology techniques through a single web based deposition system. The successful candidate will work with both the MSD team and with partners in the United States in software developments. Qualifications and experience: Applicants must hold a degree in Computer Science or have a proven record in software development. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 3 years experience in programming. Advanced proficiency in Java and XML dictionary based programming are essential as is experience of a Unix environment and the ability to work in a collaborative and long term maintenance system. Experience in web application development technologies would be an advantage. Knowledge of Unix/Linux and Emacs is essential Experience of working on a linux platform and using other biological databases is desirable but not essential, but you must be self-motivated and have good attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills and be able to work to deadlines.
