X-Ray Diffraction Facility Manager, University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina is seeking a manager for our
Macromolecular X-ray Crystallography Facility (non-tenure track
faculty). The facility is state of the art with two x-ray
generators, Rigaku RU-3HR and MicroMax007 HF with R-axis IV++, R-axis
IV, and Saturn CCD detectors, an Actor Robotic crystal mounting
system and Varimax HF and HR optics and X-Stream2 N2 cooling. The
facility also has newly installed automated crystallization screening
tools (Phoenix crystallization, Alchemist liquid handler, and
Minstrel imager with two associated plate hotels).

The manager will be responsible for 1) maintaining the instruments in
top working condition; 2) providing user support and training to new
users; 3) either managing technical help or providing service for our
crystallization facility; 4) managing billing and financial reports.
He/she will be authorized to apply for research and instrumentation
funds. Salary and academic level will be commensurate with
experience. More information about the facility may be found at:
http://xtal.med.unc.edu/XRAY/resources.htm

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience
in a discipline using x-ray crystallography, will have the ability to
maintain complex scientific laboratory equipment and will interact
and communicate effectively with all levels of individuals in a
professional manner.

The UNC structural biology community is diverse and includes six
supporting Pis and an approximately equal number of associated
laboratories who make active use of the facility for structure
determination. Areas represented include signaling, immunology,
enzymology, drug design, and molecular evolution.
