Post-doctoral Training Fellow

Structure and Interactions of the Retinoblastoma-associated Protein

Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral position funded by Cancer Research UK, to work on structure and interactions of domains of the retinoblastoma-associated protein pRb, implicated in regulation of DNA replication and apoptosis (see Hassler et al, 2007, Mol. Cell, 28, 371-385).

The project is a collaboration between the teams led by Dr. Sibylle Mittnacht (Cancer Research UK Programme on tumour cell signalling networks) and Prof. Laurence Pearl (Structural Biology) at the Chester Beatty Laboratories. Between them these teams share an extensive range of state of the art equipment for biochemical, biophysical and structural work. The laboratories are exceptionally well equipped for all aspects of modern cell biology and structural biology, with state-of-the-art equipment for cell imaging, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography and structural electron micoscopy.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Macromolecular Crystallography or Protein biochemistry with postdoctoral experience in recombinant expression, protein purification and, ideally, crystallographic structure determination.

Protein biochemistry, protein crystallisation and computational crystallography skills are essential and candidates with a working knowledge of eukaryotic cell biology, cell-cycle control, DNA replication survival and apoptosis will be at an advantage.

The post is offered on a fixed-term contract with a starting salary in the range £29,256 to £36,922 p.a. inclusive based on relevant skills and experience.
