Postdoctoral position available
Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Department of Pharmacology

We are seeking outstanding and motivated candidates for a postdoctoral
position in the Iverson laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at the
Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The focus of the research is the
structure-function relationships in systems guiding sensation and response.
These crystallographic studies are currently investigating several broad
categories of membrane proteins, all of which are medically relevant drug
targets. We are also interested in furthering the development of techniques
for membrane protein crystallization. Molecular biology, protein expression
and purification, and x-ray crystallography will be required to pursue these
projects.

The postdoctoral fellowıs research will benefit from the outstanding
resources in the Center for Structural Biology at the Vanderbilt University
Medical Center. The on-campus x-ray facilities include an R-AXIS IV, an
X-calibur, and a high-brilliance Bruker x-ray generator with two CCD
detectors and a robotic automounter. Additionally, the University has
purchased a share in LS-CAT at the Advanced Photon Source to guarantee
regular synchrotron access. A new, state-of-the-art robotic crystallization
facility includes liquid handling and nano-liter drop-setting. The
laboratoryıs protein expression and purification facilities include
mammalian tissue culture, facilities for bacterial and insect cell growth,
and three Akta purification systems.

Vanderbilt University is located in Nashville, an exciting multi-cultural
center that houses the music industry in this region. The mild climate makes
a pleasant background for this diverse and lively city. Nature lovers will
enjoy the nearby Smoky Mountains and find other outdoor recreation easily
accessible.

Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. prior to starting the position,
but may apply in anticipation of their degree being awarded within 9 months.
The successful candidate will be paid according to the NIH pay scale,
receiving $36,996 in their first year. Applicants should contact
tina.iverson@vanderbilt.edu.
